Part 2 | Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign" is located a short walk away from the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, just South of Russell Road. On the main run in from Los Angeles, you cannot miss this sign! With the 'Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada' written on the front, and 'Drive Carefully, Come Back Soon' written on the back - and all lit-up at night! This iconic Las Vegas signage was designed by Betty Willis while she worked for Western Neon Company. Betty also designed the signs for the Moulin Rouge Hotel.

**Fabulous Las Vegas Sign**

The Fabulous Las Vegas Sign was created in 1959 at a cost of around $4,000, but had very limited access for actually getting to stand next to it! People were having to resort to jaywalking, or parking on the busiest road in and out of Vegas!

Luckily the Las Vegas sign is now very easy to get to, and features a 12-car parking lot and access for the disabled. There is also space for two buses to park as well - making a huge difference from the 1960's! All of this makes standing for your photograph in front of the iconic sign a breeze - although it also means the crowds of people waiting can be huge!

Sticking with the theme of progress, Las Vegas city has recently installed "Power Trees" along the west side of the Fabulous Las Vegas sign. This has made it possible to make the sign run on solar power - although the trees may temporarily obscure your view when driving!

**Downtown Las Vegas Sign**

Located in Downtown Las Vegas is the lesser known "Welcome To Downtown Las Vegas" sign has stood in place since 2002, and is located at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. This is within walking distance of The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino if you wish to visit!
